The Challenge
The Catalina Club needed to cater to a wide range of customer types, including golfers, holiday makers, families, groups, singles, and patrons across different age groups, while functioning effectively across different times of day. The venue had to support multiple uses including café, lounge areas, indoor and outdoor seating, dining and bar zones, reception, golf shop, and retail within an existing footprint. Key constraints included avoiding structural changes to control capital costs and maximise ROI, while also improving acoustic comfort and operational efficiency in a busy, multi-use environment.
Our Approach
Our approach was to create a network of clearly defined yet connected zones, each tailored to different customer behaviours, dwell times, and service needs. Distinct café, lounge, dining, bar, reception, golf shop, retail, and outdoor areas were designed to support different user groups and day-part trading. Each zone was deliberately given a unique look and feel through furniture selection, carpet treatments, ceiling design, and finishes, allowing spatial identity and variety without structural works.
Acoustic performance was improved through material choices and ceiling treatments that help absorb noise and reduce sound spill between zones, supporting comfort and conversation. Operational efficiency was also a key driver in the planning, with layouts and adjacencies designed to streamline staff movement, service points, and customer flow. This strategy delivered a flexible, high-performing venue that enhances user experience, supports smooth operations, and achieves strong commercial return while keeping build costs low.

From the initial concept discussions to the final execution, Rebecca demonstrated a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of our vision. The team took the time to listen, provided thoughtful recommendations, educating us along the way with the reason why, and delivered designs that not only met but exceeded our expectations.
X+O's ability to balance aesthetics with functionality is truly impressive. I highly recommend X+O, and especially Rebecca, to anyone looking for innovative and high-quality design solutions".
